Description
Blaen Ffynnonau is an early 19th-century, two-storey farmhouse featuring three windows. The building is constructed from rubble masonry and is slate hung in diminishing courses up to the ground floor sill level. It has a moderately pitched slate roof with plain close eaves and close verges. There is a large squat rendered chimney stack on the left and a smaller stack at the right end, both with water tabling.
The farmhouse has symmetrical features that are offset to the right. On the first floor, there are 16-pane sash windows with slated reveals, and similar windows flank the door on the ground floor. The round arched doorway has a blind fanlight and slated reveals, with a modern door installed. A small attic window is located on the left gable end, along with a diagonal mullioned and shuttered buttery window on the ground floor.
At the rear, there is a later extension made of limewashed rubble masonry, topped with a slate roof that has oversailing eaves and close verges. This section features a square chimney stack and modern windows.
To the right of the farmhouse is an adjoining stable that shares a continuous roofline with the house. It is also made of limewashed rubble and has a slate roof. There is a loft window below the eaves with wooden shutters, and a doorway offset to the left with a timber lintel, along with a modern brick lean-to on the right. The end wall is set into a slope, with stone steps leading to the loft doorway and a concrete lintel above. There is a window on the rear elevation.
A rubble wall encloses the forecourt, which has later brick gatepiers.
Inside, the farmhouse features a good contemporary dog-leg staircase with a moulded newel and plank doors.
