Description
23 Severn Street is a town house built around 1800, predating the Mansion House constructed in 1820 that is located behind it. The building features a painted brick facade facing the street and a slate roof. It stands three stories tall with a three-window arrangement and a central entrance. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with an overlight, set back in a flat arched opening and accessed by steps. Each floor is flanked by wide 16-pane hornless sash windows with flat arched brick heads. There is a continuous sill band at the first floor, and the upper storey has lower 12-pane sashes beneath the eaves. The eaves are finished with a plain band. This well-detailed early 19th-century town house is part of an important group of buildings developed in the early years of the 19th century on the south side of Severn Street.
