Description
25 Severn Street is a building that likely dates back to the 18th century but was remodeled around 1830. It features lined-out render and a slate roof with overhanging eaves supported by a modillion cornice. The structure is two stories high and has a three-window layout with a central entrance. The entrance is sheltered by a cast-iron porch with trellis work and a Greek key pattern. It houses a four-panelled, partly glazed door topped with a moulded entablature hood, which is set in a shallow segmental archway with a fanlight above. The windows on either side of the entrance are tripartite sashes with cambered heads and are framed by moulded architraves. The first floor has a continuous sill band beneath twelve-pane sash windows, which also feature stressed architraves.
This building is a well-detailed early 19th-century townhouse that retains much of its original external character. It is part of an important group of properties developed in the early years of the 19th century on the south side of Severn Street.
