Description
26 Severn Street was built around 1830, likely designed as both a house and a shop from the beginning. The building features a brick front on the street side, while the rear is constructed of local granite rubble. It has a hipped slate roof with an axial stack and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The ground floor is dominated by a late 19th-century shop front, which includes panelled pilasters that support a renewed fascia. To the left, there is a recessed doorway, and the shop window is canted into the recess, divided into two large panes for the main display. On the right, a four-panelled doorway with a segmentally arched brick head leads to the domestic space above the shop. The upper windows are 12-pane sashes with gauged brick heads on the first floor and 9-pane sashes on the second floor. This building is included as a simple mid-19th-century house and shop that contributes to a group on the south side of Severn Street.
