Description
Leslie House is a town house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from granite ashlar and features a plinth, flat arches, and a first-floor sill string. The roof is hipped and covered with asbestos slate, with projecting eaves. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys above a basement. The front has a regular five-window arrangement, which was likely originally symmetrical with a central doorway. The windows are early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sashes, except for the taller 24-pane hornless sashes flanking the wide doorway on the right. This doorway features a six-panel door with a patterned overlight and sidelights. The rear of the house retains original hornless sashes with glazing bars, including a mid-floor round-arched stair window with a fanlight head and a ground-floor window on the left with double doors and margin panes leading to an overlight. There is also a cast-iron balcony at the front. Inside, the house boasts many original and restored features, including panelled doors, window shutters, an open-well staircase, moulded and carved ceiling cornices with bands, and at least one marble chimneypiece with corner blocks and roundels.
