Description

Coed-y-dinas is a stone building that likely dates to around 1840 and was part of the Powis Estate's home-farm by the mid-19th century. Its original purpose is not known, and it features an unusual design.

The exterior is constructed from rough random local sandstone rubble and has a slate roof. The building stands three storeys tall, with the west elevation displaying six windows on the second floor and seven on the first floor, all featuring simple voussoir heads. The entrance is located at the right-hand end of the first floor, accessed by external steps. The ground floor of this elevation is mostly blind, with a single entrance to the left of centre. The east elevation has a series of eight low, wide segmental-headed arched openings at floor level, each with keystones in voussoir heads. There are six windows on each upper floor, also with simple voussoir heads. A loading door is present in the south gable of the upper storey.

Inside, the intermediate floor has been removed, but the upper floor retains king-post trusses with cambered tie-beams, along with the remains of a wooden hoist-wheel at the gable end loading door.
