Description
The Courtyard Ranges at Upper Dolley House are likely an early 17th-century box-framed structure located to the south, alongside a later rubble-walled range that is set into the slope by the roadside. The outer rubble wall features two raked buttresses to the right of a full-height opening, a corrugated roof, and a weatherboarded gable end. The courtyard front shows remains of loft doors and ground floor openings. Inside, there is a simple tie-beam roof.
The south range consists of two storeys with stud and infill walls, and the upper storey is positioned above the original wall plates. It has slate roofs with wide eaves, collar and tie beam trusses inside, and later timbers that support the raised eaves, resting on rubble footings. There are full-height openings through the range to the left of center, which may have once had doors leading to a threshing floor. The eastern end features small upper openings with glazed vertical lights, while the western end is incorporated into the rubble range along the road. The building is partly decayed.
