Description

Chadwick Barns is a former agricultural building, dating to the 17th century, that has been converted into a dwelling. It has undergone alterations and additions in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The building is constructed with a timber frame, using reclaimed brick infill panels (dating to the late 20th century), and has plain tile roofs. Modern doors and windows are present throughout.

The layout is U-shaped, consisting of three ranges attached to each other and arranged around what was formerly a yard, now a courtyard garden. The west range has a modern addition that matches the original materials on the left side, and a two-bay section from the 17th century on the right. The 17th-century part of the west range reveals the timber frame, with a window and patio doors (installed in the late 20th century) on the ground floor, and timber boarding in one of the upper infill panels. The timber frame is also exposed on the north range, with new door and window openings fitted. There are rooflights and a dormer window towards the right-hand side. The east range has a lower roofline and also features inserted openings on its courtyard side. The south gable end, which has a hipped roof, and the roadside (east) elevation are without openings, although there are two rooflights on the north end of the east elevation. The timber frame is exposed on both the south gable and the eastern roadside elevation. The north gable wall facing the roadside has late 20th-century windows on both the ground and first floors. The north return has a lean-to addition at its western end, with inserted modern windows and rooflights.

The interior was not inspected in 2015.
