Description
Oldwich House Farmhouse is a Grade II* listed building dating from the early 16th century, with alterations made over time. The farmhouse features a stone base, a red brick front, and a timber-framed back and east side. It has a tiled roof with tall chimneystacks and stands two storeys high, with a first-floor band and a projecting gable on the left. The windows are arranged in a 1:3 pattern, consisting of flush casement windows with wood mullions and transoms, while the ground floor has cambered arches. The left side of the building has a chimney breast with flush stone quoins and diagonally set shafts. There is a modern gabled porch with a nail-studded door. Inside, one room is lined with Elizabethan panelling featuring an enriched frieze, and there is an early 18th-century chimneypiece. The farmhouse is reputed to be the ancestral home of the Shakespeare family. Oldwich House Farmhouse and its barn form a group.
