Description
Yew Tree Farmhouse is a two-storey, four-bay, single-pile house dating from the 18th century. The right-hand bay is recessed by about 1 foot. The building is constructed of painted rubble stone and features a slate roof with tall brick stacks that project from the front and rear eaves as well as the roadside gable end. There is a door to the left of the centre that is part-glazed and sits under an open timber porch. The windows are mainly 19th and 20th century casements, while the rear elevation has a regular arrangement of 19th century chamfered casements.
The farmhouse retains its original plan, which includes a cross-passage and major trusses above the room partitions. Three cruck trusses are still in place, with the upper sections visible in the roof space. One of these trusses is infilled and smoke-blackened on both sides, featuring a mortice and tenon yoke and a central post. Above this, there is a 19th century king-post roof. Additionally, the ground floor room to the south of the hall passage has two 17th century scroll-stopped axial beams.
