Description
Alexanderstone is a large farmhouse built from rubble stone, featuring a roof with stone end stacks, the one on the right being larger. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window arrangement of square cambered-headed windows that include 9-pane hopper-opening glazing. Stone voussoirs are present above all the windows, which are grouped towards the centre, although the middle window and door are aligned closer to the right window bay. The windows have stone sills, and there is a renewed board door. Three gabled dormers from the 20th century are located on the roof.
The left end of the farmhouse has overhanging verges and two first-floor windows with pairs of casements, along with one attic window, all featuring stone voussoirs. At the rear right, there is a ground floor 17th-century three-light timber mullion window with recessed hollow mouldings and a cambered head, also with stone voussoirs. A first-floor window is partially blocked by a lean-to that has been added to the rear of the rear wing. This rear wing includes a gable end attic window positioned above a window and door, both with stone voussoirs.
Attached to the right of the farmhouse is a one-and-a-half-storey service range that has a stone end stack. This range features a door and a large 20th-century window, with a 20th-century eaves-breaking gabled window above. Further to the right is a lower L-plan coach-house range that has three cambered-arched coach entries and three large 20th-century eaves gabled dormers above. At right angles to this is a former stable with slightly higher eaves, which includes a wide-spaced door, a small window, and another door, all with stone voussoirs. The stable also features 20th-century doors and windows, along with three similar large 20th-century gabled eaves dormers.
The rear of the service range shows the frame of an oak mullioned window with settings for diamond mullions, while the rear of the coach-house has exposed ends of massive beams. The interior is not available for inspection, but there are shutters on the ground floor windows. The plan indicates large end wall fireplaces, with the one in the hall to the right being larger, and a shaped doorhead in the corner doorway leading to the rear wing.
