Description
The structure is a medieval doorway dating from the 14th century, located to the left of the entrance gates to the Old Vicarage, along with enclosing walls. The doorway features a small pointed arch with recessed curved moulding on the jambs and arch. A moulded hoodmould is supported by a corbel on the right and a short column shaft that rises from a lower corbel on the left. To the right of the doorway, there is an attached length of dry stone wall. The wall ends with a 19th-century stone cap, which serves as the left gatepier for the entry to the former vicarage. The low enclosing walls from the 19th century are constructed of squared rock-faced grey stone and topped with stepped stone coping. A gate is positioned to the front right between two piers that have roughly pyramidal stone caps, with a modern iron gate installed.
