Description
The ruins of Llanddew Castle consist of the remains of a medieval hall, featuring thick rubble stone walls on three sides, with the front wall missing. The walls are thicker at the base and include a ledge that would have supported the beams of a former basement ceiling. There is no evidence of any former stone vaulting. The high surviving end walls and one end of the rear wall remain intact, while the rest of the rear wall survives just above basement height. The right end wall contains the remains of a large pointed end window with splayed reveals. The left end wall features external put-log holes and a splayed loop leading to the basement on the right. The rear wall shows crease lines indicating the former gabled external porch, with some projecting stones still visible on either side of an elliptical-arched door that has stone voussoirs. Inside the basement, there is a projection for the base of a fireplace on the rear wall.
