Description
Christmas Cottage is a 17th-century building constructed of rubble masonry and topped with a slate roof. It features a two-unit plan, with one storey and an attic. At the west end, there is a bakeoven accompanied by its masonry stack. The front of the cottage has a central panelled door beneath a plain lintel, flanked by a window on each side, and two later dormers above. The lower storey has modern, four-pane, wooden casement windows. At the rear, there is one small light and two attic dormers similar to those at the front.
Inside, there is one spine beam with very small subsidiary beams, and a central post that marks the original division between the bays. A new partition wall has been added to the east of this post to create a kitchen with a staircase leading to the attic storey. It is noted that a slate surface is said to have previously existed at the east end. The fireplace spans the west end of the cottage and is made of masonry with a substantial lintel. The bakeoven is located in the northwest corner, and there is a seat or stand at the south end, beyond the fireplace.
