Description
Bacheldre Barns is an L-shaped building dating from the 18th century, featuring two storeys and a renewed slate roof. The northern range has a red brick ground floor on the front elevation, while the rear is constructed from rubble masonry with brickwork repairs. Above these materials, there is open timber framing that includes diagonal struts. The front of the barn has stable doors with segmental brick arched heads, vertical ventilation loops, and wood planked double doors at the eastern end. The eastern range is clad in timber and includes hatches for a hay loft and double doors.
Originally, the lower floor was used for stabling, with a loft above for hay, straw, or grain. Although the timber framing inside is not fully intact, the northern range features partitions for stabling on the ground floor, central posts to support the first floor, and three posts at the first floor level. The trusses above the tie beam level are open and consist of two purlins with four arched, raked struts. There is also a doorway at the first floor level that connects to the eastern range.
