Description

Pentrenant Farmhouse is a substantial house featuring a long main range and two cross wings. It has a projecting gabled porch that leads to a through passage. Originally timber framed, much of the structure has been replaced with masonry, render, and some brickwork. The roofs are covered with asbestos slate, and there is one masonry stack located at the entry, along with two additional stacks—one masonry on the eastern wing and one brick at the western end. The house stands two storeys tall, with an attic at the western end.

The gabled porch is timber framed on the upper storey, with a jettied mid rail. The exterior displays a combination of close studding and decorative framing, featuring cusping or diamonds that contain fleur de lis motifs, although a modern window has been inserted through this area. A section of box framing is preserved at the eastern end of the building. There is a rear door opposite the front door and porch, indicating a through passage behind the chimney. Both doors are modern, and there is a rear lean-to porch with latticed woodwork.

The front façade is primarily masonry with small pane iron casement windows that have segmental heads. The eastern wing features full-height windows with margin-light glazing, set in a moulded architrave on the ground floor, with a four-pane sash window above. The rear of the building is mostly rendered and includes a mix of small pane iron casement windows, sash windows, and modern casement windows. The property was not accessible at the time of inspection in January 1996.
