Description

Moor Farmhouse, now a house, largely dates to the late 16th century, with 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of timber framing with brick infill on a stone rubble plinth, and has plain-tile roofs. A brick ridge stack is located on the main range, featuring a 19th-century decorated recessed panel and oversailing cap. A stone integral gable-end stack on the main range has 17th-century brick shafts with spurs, topped with a 19th-century cap. The house has an H-shaped plan, comprising a main range and cross wings at each end.

The south front has a three-framed bay main range with projecting cross wing gables to the left and right. The main range features 19th or 20th-century casement windows in each bay on both floors, some with lattice-leaded glazing. An entrance outshut on the left has a 19th-century two-light casement and door. The timber framing is partially of close-studded panels, with some square framing consisting of storey posts, studs, and middle rails. The left-hand west cross wing gable is rendered with applied imitation framing, retaining only the jowled post and sill plate of the original framing. It has a two-light first-floor casement and two- and three-light casements on the ground floor. A mid-19th-century brick cross wing gable to the right features a two-light first-floor casement above a four-light ground-floor casement with a brick segmental arch.

The left return side exhibits close-studded framing with a girding beam, posts, middle rails, and studs, with a three-light casement on each floor. The right return side is partially covered by a 19th-century framed outshut with 20th-century casements, with a brick-lined stone stack in the centre. The cross wing to the right has square framing, four panels high, with posts, girding beam, studs, and middle rail.

The rear to the north consists of a three-framed bay main range with projecting cross wing gables to the left and right. The main range has two casement windows on each storey and a boarded door with a tiled canopy to the ground floor on the left. The framing is of partial close-studding with a girding beam, posts, and middle rails. Matching projecting cross wing gable ends each side, together with projecting returns, feature close-studded framing with a girding beam, middle rails, and studs. A central projecting first-floor oriel window and a 19th-century canted bay window on the ground floor are present. The oriel has a six-light ovolo-moulded mullion and transom window and single-light side casements with lattice-leaded lights. It has a tiled pentice roof, close-studded panelling infill with brick, and pendant corner posts. The canted bay window below has timber mullion windows to the left, and possibly a 17th-century ovolo-moulded five-light mullion and transom lattice-leaded window to the right, both with canted close-studded framing below. The gable heads have restored framing: a jettied straight tie beam with an ovolo-chamfered soffit, a double collar with vertical struts below and between, twin raking struts over, quadrant-shaped struts set between forming decorative patterned framing, painted render infill, and a three-light lattice-leaded attic mullion window. The west gable has a low boarded door with nail-head studs to the right of the bay window.

The interior was not inspected.
