Description

Pentrenant Hall is a small country house built in the Tudor-Gothic style. It likely dates to the 18th century, although the precise date of construction is not specified. The house has a complex, picturesque appearance created by a main block and service wing, which are designed to show the internal layout through a series of separately gabled sections. It is two storeys high throughout. The main house is constructed from coursed and squared rubble with ashlar dressings, while the service range is built from random rubble. Both sections have slate roofs. Numerous axial and gable-end stacks are present, largely with grouped and shaped shafts, some featuring twist decoration.

The front of the house (facing west) includes the service range on the right-hand side. The main block's front elevation features a three-window range, with a projecting, coped gabled wing on the right-hand side, and a central entrance alongside it. The entrance is sheltered by an ashlar porch with a four-centred archway and an embattled parapet, leading to inner double doors which are partially glazed. The left-hand bay, which houses the front reception room, is emphasised by a slightly projecting gable, with prominent kneelers and a finial to the coped gable. All windows are mullioned sashes with margin-light glazing, emphasised surrounds, and drop-ended hood-moulds. A gabled return on the north side has similar fenestration, including a floor-length window on the ground floor. A further gabled wing behind (housing the rear reception room) features similar fenestration on both of its elevations, as does a further rear range set at right angles to it. The service block is slightly recessed to the right of the main entrance and comprises a two-window range (with a parallel rear range) and an advanced gabled wing; it has a central secondary entrance and similar fenestration, but with painted stone dressings.

The front entrance opens into a hall. The two main reception rooms are located to the north, with a corridor leading to the service area to the south, and a staircase in the centre of the south side. Interior details include doorways with panelled reveals, panelled doors, oak floors, and Tudor arched openings. The main reception rooms have ribbed ceilings with open plasterwork coving; one is decorated with vine leaves and the other with gothic tracery. A dark wood staircase rises under a ribbed, vaulted ceiling, and a stairlight features a wheel window with stained glass and a heraldic emblem.

Outbuildings, including a stable block, ice house, and barns are located to the rear and a ha-ha is situated at the front of the property.
