Description

Bickerton Farm Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of painted stone rubble and features a thatched roof, with a gabled left end and a hipped right end. The cottage has a large stone rubble stack at the left end, which includes slate weathered set-offs. The plan consists of a small two-room house with a central entrance. The larger room on the left has a gable end stack with an oven, while the smaller room on the right is unheated. There is a later outbuilding attached to the right end and a small 20th-century outshut at the back.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window south front, with one window on the first floor and two on the ground floor. The windows are 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, slate sills, and timber lintels. The doorway, located to the right of centre, features a timber lintel and a 20th-century glazed door. The left gable end has a large projecting stack with set-offs and a projecting oven at its base. The right end includes a 20th-century two-light casement on the first floor with a slate sill. At the rear, there is a small single-storey 20th-century outshut with a corrugated asbestos roof.

The interior has not been inspected but may be of interest. The fireplace in the left end stack includes an oven, although its lintel is reported to have been replaced. The roof structure may be original.
