Description

The Church of St Andrew, originally a Church Mission Room, was built in 1883. It features rendered stone and a slate roof with gabled ends and red clay ridge tiles. The church has a single cell rectangular plan with a north (liturgical west) entrance accessed through a porch that includes an integral vestry or stove.

On the exterior, the east (liturgical south) side has three gables, each adorned with a decorated style tracery stone 2-light window set in a 2-centred arch chamfered opening. A similar window is found in the north (liturgical east) end, along with small window slits in both end gables. The south (liturgical west) end features a gable-ended rendered porch topped with a wooden bellcote that has cusped open sides and a tented spire with a finial. The porch includes a panelled door leading into the church. In front of the porch is a small yard enclosed by a rendered wall and a 19th-century cast-iron gate with spear-head finials. The west (liturgical north) side has a straight-headed window with three pointed-headed lights and two small recessed panels. Above the north (liturgical east) gable is a simple wooden cross.

Inside, the church has rendered walls and an original collar-rafter roof. It contains a simple 19th-century altar table and a portable open-sided wooden pulpit. The font serves as a Second World War memorial. According to Kelly's Directory of 1889, the mission room was established at Beesands through the efforts of Miss Theresa Johnson of Totres, with assistance from a few subscribers.
