Description

Sea Thatch is a house that was originally a pair of cottages, likely built in the 18th century. It was extended in the 19th century and has additional extensions from the 20th century at the rear. The building is made of rendered stone rubble and features a thatched roof with gabled ends. There are large rendered stacks at both ends, with the right-hand stack heightened in brick and projecting outward.

The original layout was probably a small two-room house with a central entrance, likely leading into a through passage. The left room was heated by a gable end stack, while the right room, now at the center, was unheated. In the 19th century, a cottage extension was added to the right end, consisting of one front room with a gable end stack and a second unheated room in an integral outshut at the back. In the 20th century, the cottages were converted into a single house, with the original partitions removed to create one large room. A single-storey outshut was built at the back, connecting the house to an outbuilding that was converted to increase living space.

The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window arrangement facing the sea. It features 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars and tiled sills. There is a doorway to the left of center with a 20th-century door and a gabled porch. A 20th-century flat-roof garage is located at the left end, and there is a flat-roof outshut at the rear. The thatch of the main roof extends over the outshut at the left end.

Inside, there are exposed chamfered ceiling joists, and the left room has an unchamfered timber fireplace lintel, while the fireplace lintel in the right room has been replaced. The first-floor rooms and roof space were not inspected.
