Description
H.W. Parker, Chemist is a 19th-century, three-storey building with a two-window front made of roughcast and brick, which likely incorporates elements from an earlier 17th-century structure. The building features a slate roof, brick stacks, wide boxed eaves, and plain bargeboards on the right gable end. It has three-light sash windows with timber architraves and a three-bay shop front supported by fluted brackets beneath the fascia. There is a modern window on the front of the gable end, with corrugated iron and weather-boarding extending to the right. A narrow lane to the right, accessed through boarded gates, leads to the side entrance of the house. The roof pitch is divided down the centre at the rear and is higher on the right side, with a brick stack located at the base of the pitch and a gable on the right.
Inside, the building retains exposed timber beams throughout. A four-foot thick cross wall may indicate that it was formerly divided into two properties and had a connection to No. 7. The roof, likely constructed in the 17th century, is made of larch and features a heavy ridge beam, through purlins, and supporting struts. Some timbers, including the ridge, have been replaced in the lower left part of the roof.
