Description

The Old Corner is a building of possibly 19th-century origin, originally with a roughcast front that was later altered to incorporate No 9. The building is two storeys and a basement at its eastern end, and single-storey at its western end. It has a hipped slate roof, with eaves that broaden towards the west, and a higher, gabled cross wing to the rear of No 9. Brick stacks are present. The front facing High Street has two windows on the first floor, while the Russell Street front has three windows on the first floor – all are two-light casements with moulded architraves. Shop fronts have been inserted on the corner, featuring a moulded cornice, fluted pilasters, roundels in the sub-friezes, a plain fascia, and timber mullions. A panelled and glazed door is located across the corner. A modern shop front is present on No 9. A later sash window is found on the ground floor of the High Street front, and a splayed bay window is on the Russell Street front, with a basement entrance below and a boarded door entrance centrally located.
