Description

R.K. Bright comprises a range of terraced buildings at 19-22 High Street, Knighton. The buildings date to the late 18th and early 19th centuries, with later alterations and additions.

The front elevation has an 8-window front, with Nos 19 and 20 rendered and Nos 20-22 roughcast. The roof is slate, with a slightly undulating ridge and exposed eaves. A tall brick stack rises from the front pitch, along with two end stacks. Modern two-storey attics with flat-roofed dormers have been added to Nos 19 and 21. There are two-storey street-facing extensions to Nos 19 and 22, and single-storey extensions to Nos 20 and 21.

No. 19 has casement windows on the second floor and four-pane sash windows with moulded architraves on the first floor. It features a 19th-century shop front with a bracketed hood, a glazed and panelled door, and a brick base. No. 20 has casement windows to the second floor and four-pane sash windows with moulded architraves on the first floor; it has a modern shop front with a lean-to roof. No. 21 boasts an 18th/early 19th century shop front under a lean-to roof, including a ten-pane window and a recessed panelled and glazed door with a fanlight. A deep porch, serving Nos. 21 and 22 and elevated above the street by seven steps with timber handrails, is located to the left. A boarded and glazed door leads to No. 21, with a modern door to No. 22. The interior of No. 21 retains original roof structure, featuring tie and collar beams and three tiers of purlins. No. 22 has a half-hipped end tiled roof and features casement windows to the fourth floor, four-pane sashes to the third floor, four and six-pane sashes to the second floor, and a single-pane shop front with a recessed timber and glazed door on the ground floor.

The rear elevation has undergone substantial alteration, including a low cross gable to the left, modern box dormers (one recessed towards the right end), and a brick stack in the centre of the roof pitch.
