Description

Molly's Cottage is a two-storey building with a timber-framed jettied front, dating from the early 17th century. The right side is roughcast and timber-framed, featuring applied half-timbering towards the front. It has a tall roughcast lateral chimney stack and slate roofs. The facade showcases concave-sided diamond decoration on the bargeboarded gable, similar to that of Upper Dolley House in Dolley Green. There is a three-light casement window on the first floor with similar timber decoration to the right. Below, the facade features Renaissance arcading with three arches supported by abaci and pilasters, two moulded brackets beneath the window, and foliage ornamentation in the spandrels. A moulded bressumer is present above.

The ground floor has a boarded door with brackets at the base, a studded section to the right, and a pointed arch window. The right range has two casement windows on the first floor and a 20th-century bay window on the ground floor. An extension from the 17th century exhibits close studding with middle rails at the front and a casement window above. Beyond the chimney stack, a shop front wraps around the corner of the earlier front, featuring one casement window on the first floor. The c1900 gabled shop front includes a dentiled cornice, volute brackets, panelled pilasters on the sides, and a modern tiled base. A six-light window on the first floor displays Arts and Crafts style stained glass and leading.

Inside, later remodelling has divided the 15th-century cruck open hall, although the trusses remain visible, including a ridge beam and purlings halved over the principals, as well as fine cusping on the central cruck truss. Timber-framed partition walls and some panelling are still present, particularly in the first-floor front room above the shop, which features later panelled supporting piers.
