Description

This is an early 19th century, three-story, six-window, colourwashed brick terrace, forming part of a group of two buildings. The building incorporates the Victoria Vaults public house, No. 14, and No. 16, which is occupied by Norman R Lloyd & Co. A two-story brick court is attached to the rear.

The main building has a gabled slate roof with a lead ridge and older slates to No. 14. It features deep boarded eaves and brick stacks; the stacks on No. 14 and the Victoria Vaults are modern, while No. 16 has a truncated projecting stack. The second-floor windows are shallow sashes; No. 14 has 8-pane windows, others have 6 panes. Lower glazing bars have been removed from the windows of the Victoria Vaults and No. 16, which originally had 12 panes. The windows have gauged brick voussoirs, plain reveals, and stone sills. No. 14 has a good 19th-century shopfront with ironwork and a crested dentil cornice, and a recessed double doorway between bays. The ground floor openings of the Victoria Vaults also have gauged brick voussoirs and a plain doorcase offset to the right. Modern windows replace some earlier features, and No. 16 has a modern shopfront with an oversized fascia. The rear elevations are well-preserved, retaining small-paned sash windows with gauged brick voussoirs.

The attached, two-story rear court, dating to the early to mid-19th century, is constructed of brick with gabled slate roofs and deep boarded eaves. It has small-paned iron casement windows on the first floor, shallow reveals, and stone sills. The ground floors have been altered, and the yard is cobbled.
