Description
This is an early 19th century, three-storey, six-window, colourwashed brick terrace comprised of numbers 14 (Lloyd & Lloyd), The Victoria Vaults public house, number 16 (Norman R Lloyd & Co), and a rear court. The building has a gabled slate roof with a lead ridge, and older slates to number 14. Deeply boarded eaves and brick stacks are present, with modern stacks to number 14 and the Victoria Vaults, and a truncated projecting stack to number 16. The second-floor windows are shallow sashes; number 14 has eight panes, while the others have six. Lower glazing bars were removed from what were originally twelve-pane sashes at the Victoria Vaults and number 16. The windows are set within gauged brick voussoirs, plain reveals, and have stone sills. A good 19th-century shopfront exists at number 14 featuring ironwork on a crested dentil cornice and a recessed double doorway between bays. The Victoria Vaults have gauged brick voussoirs to the ground floor openings, with a plain doorcase offset to the right; these windows are modern. A more recent shopfront with an oversized fascia is present at number 16. The rear elevations are notable for retaining small-paned sash windows with gauged brick voussoirs.
Attached to the rear is a two-storey brick court, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It features a gabled slate roof, deeply boarded eaves, and small-paned iron casement windows on the first floor, set within shallow reveals and stone sills. The ground floors of the court have been altered, and it contains a cobbled yard. The building forms a group of two.
