Description
14 Broad Street, also known as Lloyd & Lloyd, The Victoria Vaults Public House, and No 16 (Norman R Lloyd & Co), is a three-storey, six-window terrace building constructed in the early to mid-19th century. The building features colourwashed brick and has a gabled slate roof with a lead ridge and old slates on No 14. It has deep boarded eaves and brick stacks, which are modern on No 14 and The Victoria Vaults, while No 16 has a truncated projecting stack.
The second-floor windows have shallow sashes, with No 14 having 8-pane sashes and the others having 6-pane sashes. The lower glazing bars have been removed from the formerly 12-pane sashes on The Victoria Vaults and No 16. The windows are adorned with gauged brick voussoirs, plain reveals, and stone sills. No 14 boasts a good 19th-century shopfront featuring ironwork on a crested dentil cornice and a recessed double doorway situated between the bays. The ground floor openings of The Victoria Vaults also have gauged brick voussoirs, while the doorcase is plain and offset to the right. No 16 has a modern shopfront with an overscaled fascia and modern windows.
At the rear, the building retains good elevations with small paned sash windows and gauged brick voussoirs. There is a two-storey court attached to the rear, built in the early to mid-19th century, made of brick with gabled slate roofs and deep boarded eaves. The first floor features small paned iron casement windows with shallow reveals and stone sills, although the ground floors have been altered. The area includes a cobbled yard.
