Description
Severn View is a manor house likely built in the later 18th century, with an extension added in the early 19th century. By 1845, it was already divided into two houses. The buildings underwent extensive remodeling in 1866. The size and unusual layout of the structure suggest that it may not have originally been intended solely for residential use, as Pool Quay was an important industrial settlement at the end of the 18th century.
The exterior features brick construction with slate roofs, gable end and axial stacks topped with dentilled caps. The main building, which is divided between the two dwellings, is two storeys high with attics and has a five-window range. The entrance to the Manor House is located to the left, accessed through an added brick porch. The windows consist of 16-pane sash windows flanking 12-pane sash windows on each floor, with an additional 12-pane sash window above the porch, all featuring cambered brick heads. The roof has five gabled dormers, each with an 8-pane sash window.
To the right, a lower bay appears to be a later addition but may actually be a conversion of a previously non-domestic block, featuring 16-pane sash windows on both floors. The one and a half storeyed range to the left, part of Severn View, has a central doorway with a moulded architrave flanked by a 12-pane and a 16-pane sash window, each with a cambered brick head. This range also has two gabled dormers similar to those in the main building and features a hipped roof. There are outbuildings at the rear of this range, which may have originally served as stabling.
