Description
Ivy House, built around 1830, was originally part of a maltings associated with the Montgomeryshire Canal. By 1845, the site included the house, an engine house, and drying kilns. The maltings buildings next to the house were later repurposed for warehousing.
The house is constructed of painted brick, while the outbuildings are mainly made of rough rubble, all topped with slate roofs. The house is two stories tall and features a two-unit plan with an axial stack and a central baffle entrance, which is accessed through an added porch. It has 16-pane sash windows with flat arched heads on either side of the entrance, and there are three similar windows on the first floor.
This well-preserved early 19th-century house, along with its outbuildings, is significant as an example of canal-side industry from its time.
