Description
Manor House and Severn View is a building likely constructed in the later 18th century, with an extension added in the early 19th century that includes the lower range at Severn View. By 1845, the structure was already divided into two houses. Extensive remodeling took place in 1866. The size and unusual layout of the building suggest it may not have been originally intended solely for domestic use, as Pool Quay was a significant industrial settlement at the end of the 18th century.
The exterior features brick construction with slate roofs, gable end and axial stacks topped with dentilled caps. The main building, which is divided between the two dwellings, is two stories high with attics and has a five-window range. The entrance to the Manor House is located on the left, within an added brick porch. The windows include 16-pane sash windows flanking two 12-pane sash windows on each floor, with an additional 12-pane sash window above the porch, all featuring cambered brick heads. There are five gabled dormers in the roof, each containing an 8-pane sash window. A lower bay to the right appears to be a later addition, possibly a conversion of a previously non-domestic block, and has 16-pane sash windows on each floor. The one-and-a-half storey range to the left, part of Severn View, has a central doorway with a moulded architrave, flanked by a 12-pane and a 16-pane sash window, both with cambered brick heads. This range also features two gabled dormers similar to those in the main building and has a hipped roof. At the rear of this range, there are outbuildings that were originally stabling.
