Description
This building at 4 Bridge Street is a pair of shops dating from the 19th century. It is constructed of yellow brick, with the shop on the right painted, and features a slate roof with boarded eaves and brick chimneys. The structure is three stories high and has a three-window front.
On the second floor, the left window is a nine-pane hornless sash, while the other windows are modern small-pane designs, all with stone sills. The first floor has three twelve-pane hornless sash windows, also with stone sills. The ground floor has later 19th-century shop and office fronts. The left two bays form one shop, while the right bay serves as an office.
The left shopfront includes a central part-glazed door with a window on each side, featuring panelled stall risers. Classically derived end pilasters support brackets and a cornice with a fascia board that extends over the entrance doorway, which is to the right of the shopfront. This doorway has a panelled door with a rectangular overlight.
To the right, there is a second, narrower shop or office front. The doorway to its left has panelled returns leading to a doorcase, with a six-panelled door. To the right of this doorway is a hornless sash window, and above it is a fascia with a bracketed cornice, similar to that of the left shop.
