Description
Eglwys Cross Cottage is a 2-storey house built with a timber frame and covered by a slate roof, featuring a brick stack on the left side. The windows throughout the building are either insertions or replacements in earlier openings. On the west side, there is a 2-light window to the left and a pair of windows to the right of the center. The upper storey has low 3-light and 2-light windows situated beneath the eaves. The left gable end has mostly renewed framing, with the exception of a tie beam. The rear of the cottage includes two 2-light windows and a 2-light raked dormer on the left side. The back of the brick extension has a boarded-up doorway, and its gable end features casement windows on each storey.
The entrance is located in a lower 2-storey, 2-window extension that is set back to the right on the west elevation. This extension is constructed of hand-moulded bricks and also has a slate roof with a brick end stack. The entrance, positioned at the left end next to the older part of the house, has a replacement boarded door, while the windows are 2-light casements in earlier openings, larger and topped with segmental heads in the lower storey.
The older section of the house has a 2-unit plan with a central timber-framed partition that includes a tie beam with raking struts. The purlins are supported by diagonal braces. Inside the lower room, there is a chamfered cross beam, and part of the original gable end is still visible. The upper room features a large fireplace with a chamfered lintel, which is likely a reconstruction.
