Description

The Wynnstay Arms Public House is a three-storey building located on Park Street, featuring a prominent central octagonal bay flanked by one window on either side. It is constructed of dark orange brick in Flemish bond, topped with a slate roof and brick chimneys, and has painted stone dressings and a stone plinth. The building showcases small-pane sash windows. The central bay has a hipped roof and tripartite sash windows on the ground and first floors, while the side faces have blocked openings with painted, round-arched heads on the first floor and blind Diocletian openings on the second floor, flanking a nine-pane sash in an earlier opening.

To the right is an earlier range built in English garden wall bond, featuring similar window styles and dressings. Attached to the right is an asymmetrical two-storey, three-window range dated 1841, which includes a central arched carriage entrance. This section is made of roughly coursed sandstone rubble with dressed stone quoins, a stringcourse, and a slate roof. The central bay is advanced and pedimented, incorporating a dated roundel. To the left, there is a window with a hoodmould, while to the right is an altered opening with a hoodmould; the upper windows are 12-pane sashes.

At the rear, there is a rubble stable block dating from the 18th century, featuring squared quoins, windows with stone architraves, and a pediment, although it has been substantially altered. The symmetrical High Street elevation displays an ornate 18th or early 19th century wrought iron bracket attached to the corner, supporting a hanging signboard. It has a central entrance and similar window styles and dressings.

The building has been significantly remodelled, but some elements of the original plan form remain visible on the upper floors.
