Description
Ash Grove is a 19th-century building with ashlar facing on the entrance and garden fronts, while the rear elevations are made of brick and topped with a hipped slate roof. The structure is two storeys tall and nearly square in shape, featuring a central entrance. The entrance bay is slightly recessed and includes a Tuscan portico with a panelled door, side lights, and an overlight. The right-hand bay projects further than the left and has a hipped gabled roof. There are 12-pane sash windows on either side of the entrance, with the ground floor windows extending to the floor. Above the entrance, there is a casement window with margin lights. A continuous sill band runs along the first floor, topped by a cornice and blocking course. The garden front on the east side has a four-window range with 12-pane sash windows, again with floor-length windows on the ground floor. The rear elevations are brick with painted stone dressings, and there is a single-storey late 19th-century extension to the west that houses a billiard room.
Inside, the central entrance hall is separated from the rear stair hall by a tripartite architrave. The stair hall features a stone staircase with cast iron balusters. Some original details, such as plaster cornices and joinery, including internal window shutters, are still present.
