Description
The L-shaped agricultural range at Fron Farm is a 17th-century barn consisting of four bays, constructed from rubble with a medium to steep slate roof and uncoped gable parapets. It features two tiers of ventilation slits and off-centre entrances at the front and rear leading to the threshing floor. These entrances were altered in the early 19th century and have brick-cambered heads. There are smaller, similar entrances on the left and far right, with the latter having plain, unglazed window openings under the eaves. The barn also has stable doors and a catslide outshut to the rear on the right. The west gable includes a loading bay, although the stepped access to it has collapsed, along with plain flanking ground-floor entrances that have boarded doors.
Adjoining to the east is the L-shaped carthouse and stables, built in two phases during the early and mid-19th century, also made of rubble and slate. The earlier right-hand section has a central cambered entrance with a boarded door and an additional entrance to the right. There is a window to the left, also cambered with a brick cill, and a later two-part iron-framed fixed window with eight panes above and vertical ventilation slits below. An open window is located to the right. The left section mirrors this design but includes brick detailing. It features a large cart entrance to the right with a cambered head, a plain cambered entrance to the left, and a single window above, as previously described. The upper part of the east face is made of brick, with two cart entrances to the left, similar to before, and two semi-circular arched vents to the right at ground level. There is a central loading bay for the upper floor with a plain door and cambered head, flanked by windows as previously noted.
