Description
Teh Barn consists of two intersecting barns that form an L shape around a cobbled and walled forecourt. The northern range, located on the right, is the oldest part, dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. The adjoining western range is a later addition, likely from the mid-17th century. Both barns are built from rubble and feature steeply-pitched slate roofs with rubble parapets at the gable ends. Although the doors and windows are modern, they generally reflect the positions of earlier openings from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The northern range has five bays and retains original queen-post trusses. It features three tiers of ventilation slits at the upper west end and five tiers on the east gable facing the road, all of which are blocked. There is a projecting rubble plinth, a cart entrance on the left that has been lowered and fitted with modern glazed doors, while the original exposed timber lintel remains. Above this entrance is a square window, and to the right is a modern lateral chimney. The rear has additional modern windows and a later single-storey lean-to on the right, which now serves as a garage with a shallow-pitched slate roof.
The western range has four bays with similar trusses and overlaps the last bay of the northern range. It features two tiers of ventilation slits and three later window openings on the first floor, all with exposed timber lintels and modern windows. There is a recessed entrance on the left with a lintel and stable door, along with three additional modern windows on the right, which were originally entrances and also have lintels. To the left, there is a modern single-storey rubble extension with a slate roof. The south gable includes a loading bay with a near-flush timber surround, and there are more modern windows at the rear along with a lateral chimney on the right. To the left of this chimney is a modern rubble porch extension with a gabled parapet and slate roof.
