Description

The Gwespyr War Memorial is a stone tablet set into a battered revetment wall made of snecked, rock-faced stone. The tablet features a roll call engraved in black letters and is supported by panelled pilasters topped with a cornice and a segmental pediment. At the base of the pilasters, there is the maker's name and an inscription that commemorates the laying of the stone by Constance Lady Bates in 1919. The tablet is flanked by concave mouldings on the sloping side walls, which end in simple piers with ball finials. Attached to these piers are later blockwork walls that enclose a small forecourt in front of the memorial. Below the memorial tablet is a foundation tablet that was laid in 1897.
