Between the troughs the plinth below the milestone is inscribed 'a gift by friends to animals'. At the base of the milestone is an iron pipe and grooves channelling water to the basins. The milestone has pointed fingers as direction indicators. It is inscribed 'St Asaph 8½ miles, Denbigh 6¾ miles, and Mold 9¼ miles'. Both sides are inscribed 'Caerwys 1 mile, Holywell 6¾ miles'. The gabled cap is inscribed with the date and royal monogram 'VR'. An added rubble stone wall is at the rear.
