Description
The milestone and drinking trough, located west of the entrance to Maes-y-coed Farm, is made of freestone and is mounted between two drinking troughs. The troughs consist of monolithic basins with grooved overflow channels along their moulded sides. The plinth beneath the milestone is inscribed with the message 'a gift by friends to animals'. At the base of the milestone, there is an iron pipe and grooves that channel water to the basins. The milestone features pointed fingers to indicate directions and is inscribed with distances: 'St Asaph 8½ miles, Denbigh 6¾ miles, and Mold 9¼ miles'. Both sides of the milestone also display the inscriptions 'Caerwys 1 mile, Holywell 6¾ miles'. The gabled cap of the milestone bears the date and the royal monogram 'VR'. Additionally, there is a rubble stone wall added at the rear.
