Description
This is an octagonal stone milestone dated 1860. It features a stepped and moulded cap and has a splayed base. Some of its faces display lightly droved masonry. The milestone indicates the following distances: Merthyr 6+ miles, London 182 3/4 miles, Cardiff 22 3/4 miles, Brecon 23 miles, and Neath 19+ miles. The base of the milestone states, "Erected by the Aberdare Local Board of Health. Executed by H Pritchard contractor Aberdare." Old photographs reveal that it once had a lamp on top.
