Description
The memorial fountain is located at the northern end of Home Farm Driveway. It features a coursed and squared rubble pylon that rises above a wider base, which is elevated by cobbled steps. The pylon has a shallow pedimented head topped with a pelican. Near the top, there is a raised cartouche displaying a monogram, and a basin is supported by a baluster. The tap is set in a cobbled niche, featuring a heraldic blackamoors head and an inscribed stone. The inscription states that this monument is part of another that stood for nearly a century at the North End of Rhyl High Street, erected by public subscription to commemorate the coming of age in 1862 of Conwy Grenville Hercules Rowley-Conwy. It was removed by the Rhyl Council and relocated here by his grandson Geoffrey Lord Langford in 1959. The architect was Clough Williams-Ellis, and the sculptor was Jonah Jones. An inscription plate from the original memorial is incorporated into the rear of the pylon, noting the original architect as T.M. Penson and the builder as W. Thomas.
