Description
The Lewis Memorial Fountain is a tall memorial fountain made of polished red Aberdeen granite, located within a square cobbled enclosure. It features a large shallow circular bowl set on a round pedestal with a moulded plinth. The bowl is gadrooned and has a prominent centrepiece, which is a very large turned baluster pedestal supporting a second similar shallow basin. This second basin also has a centrepiece turned baluster topped with a cross finial. The fountain is elevated on two unpolished granite steps that are octagonal in shape and is inscribed on four sides. The western side bears the inscription, "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me." The southern side reads, "The beloved physician," while the northern side states, "Blessed are the merciful." The eastern side commemorates Doctor Frederick Williams Lewis, noting, "In loving memory of Doctor Frederick Williams Lewis MRCS LSA Lon. Born May 8 1851 Died Nov 25 1899. This fountain is erected by his friends the Rev Thomas Evans JP and Mrs Evans of Henllys 1901."
