Description
4 Market Square is a terraced house dating from the 19th century. It features a low two-bay, two-storey design with an attic and a low-pitched slate gabled roof that has no chimneys and close eaves between the two front gables. The exterior is finished in painted roughcast with a raised plain plinth and two eaves gables that include fixed circular lights and ornate pierced bargeboards topped with finials.
On the first floor, there are two large four-pane horned sash windows. The ground floor has a large canted timber bay window on the left, which has dentilled eaves and three 20th-century fixed single panes that replaced the original sashes. To the right, there is a recessed door with four vertical panels, two of which are glazed. This door is set within a doorcase that features a similar dentilled cornice on console brackets, along with a moulded frieze and plain pilasters that appear to be replacements.
Inside, there is a 19th-century rear wall stair with a turned newel and ball finial, along with turned balusters and a closed string. The walls and ceilings are boarded, and there is an altered fireplace in the living area.
