Description
The Former Laundry is a Grade II listed building, constructed with render over roughly coursed and squared rubble, and topped with old slate roofs. The right-hand section is likely the oldest part of the structure. This building consists of two houses, which were almost certainly built as such.
Both houses are two storeys tall. The right-hand house features a two-unit plan with a central entrance. It has drop-ended hood moulds over the lower windows and three upper windows located beneath the eaves. Throughout, the windows are small-paned casement or horizontally sliding sash types. The central house also has a central entrance, which is marked by a heavy stone lintel above the doorway, with small-paned casement windows above and to the left, and a 6-pane fixed-light window to the right. The single-unit house on the left represents a separate phase of construction, featuring small-paned casement windows and a doorway with steep cambered heads.
The rear elevation facing the stable yard is irregularly fenestrated, with the current windows mainly being old insertions, including sash windows with 4 and 16 panes. Some earlier windows still show their cambered heads.
Inside the right-hand house, there is a roughly arched bresummer above a former inglenook fireplace, and paired spine beams with scrolled chamfer stops in the main room. A splat baluster staircase adds to the interior features.
