Description
The churchyard walls and lychgate at the Church of St Sadwrn are notable features constructed from limestone rubble. The walls consist of two main sections. The first section runs parallel to the lane on the north side of the churchyard and adjoins a detached belfry. This wall stands approximately 1.8 meters high and extends for about 60 meters, featuring a small entrance with oak half-gates, where the walls curve inward on either side. To the right of this entrance is a short section of wall that includes a boarded door in a pegged frame, terminating at a house beyond.
The lychgate, built in 1935, has a rubble stone base with a timber-framed upper section that features open sides and decorative carvings on the spandrels of the cambered collar, along with a crucifix on the king post above. It is topped with decorative bargeboards and an oversailing slate roof, and has paired timber gates.
The second stretch of wall runs south from the lychgate, parallel to a steep metalled path leading down to Llindir Street. This section is about 1 meter high on the churchyard side and reaches a maximum height of around 2 meters on the path side. At the bottom, the wall continues along the southern boundary of the churchyard as a low wall. To the right of the lychgate, connecting it to the detached bell tower, is a railed war memorial featuring a Celtic cross and plain railings set in an arc between square piers.
