Description
The churchyard boundary wall runs from Gwyn Yr Afon to the entrance of the later churchyard. This continuous stretch of rubble wall lines the road and serves as a revetment wall for the elevated churchyard, slightly increasing in height to the north. It curves around the corner to the west of the church and continues around the eastern end beyond the lychgate to the entrance of the later churchyard.
There is probably an 18th-century pointed arched southwest gateway featuring an advanced architrave, a corbelled parapet, and a keystone that leads to steps up to the footpath. To the left, there is a ramped walkway set back, with a further rubble wall in line with the road. Plain gate-piers with Gothic iron gates lead to the path to the west door. An undated view shows this section of the wall much as it is today, and its depiction of the original north aisle windows suggests a date before around 1765. The wall has pointed copings and curves around the corner, rising to a northwest pointed arched entrance with a keystone dated 1843.
The wall continues east along Silver Street, decreasing in height as the ground rises, and is broken by an opening opposite the north transept. It then turns south and runs along Church Lane to the freestone lychgate, which has a stone-tiled roof and arched trusses on massive corbels. The rubble wall continues south, with steps that curve towards gate piers that are not of special interest.
