Description

Latham House is a fine Georgian building dating from the 18th century. It is a three-storey structure with a three-window rubble front and a slate roof, featuring raised coved plaster eaves and cement render chimney stacks. The building has four-light sash windows, with 12 panes on the second floor and 16 panes with damaged cornices on the first and ground floors. The central entrance is framed by an open-pedimented doorcase that showcases classical details in the cornice and entablature, supported by plain pilasters. The arched entrance includes a recessed six-panel door and a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars.

To the right, there is a cement render twin gabled end wall, with an asymmetrical front gable due to the raised eaves, modern windows, and a ground floor extension. The rear features scribed cement render with a parallel range that has 19th-century alterations, boxed eaves, and advanced bay windows that are splayed at the ground floor, equipped with sash glazing.

The front of the house is adorned with cast iron railings topped with dagger finials. Inside, the property retains chamfered cross beams, an original staircase, acanthus cornices, and a fanlight on the first floor landing with barley twist glazing bars. The roof has overlapping purlins, and there is a late medieval fireplace on the ground floor that may have originally been part of the Castle.
