Description

The Dragon Hotel is an early Georgian building dating from the 18th century. It is a two-storey structure with an attic and features a five-window rendered front, topped by a tall, steep-pitched roof. The building has two contemporary brick chimney stacks at either end and three pitched roof dormers with plain bargeboards and slate hung sides. The windows are paired casements.

The eaves are bracketed and canted upwards towards the center, creating a pediment above a later 18th-century Venetian window. This window is adorned with stepped keystones, a swept-out cornice, a classical frieze, and plain pilasters, along with a bracketed cill. The building has renewed 12 and 16-pane sash windows, which feature moulded cornices.

On the ground floor, there are two splayed bays at the center, with some timber glazing bars removed from the right bay, while the left retains its original glass. To the right, there is a half-glazed door with a flat hood supported by ogee brackets, and an original 12-pane sash window is positioned to the right of this door. The front of the building previously had two additional doorways, which led to the landlord's cottage; these are now blocked and replaced with 2-light casement windows.

The right end wall is roughcast and displays an exposed chimney breast, as seen in a view from 1898 that shows a one-window lean-to. The left end wall is made of rubble and partially rendered. The rear of the building features sash windows and a large chimney breast that has been heightened in brick, with plans for the rear to be rebuilt soon.

Inside, the hotel retains some original unmoulded beams on the ground floor.
