Description

This building, located at No. 1 and the Tower front of No. 49 High Street, is a group of two-storey structures featuring two-window designs, except for Nos 1 and 8. The frontages are a mix of stucco and roughcast, with whitewashed plaster on the first floors of Nos 2 and 3. Nos 49, 4, and 7 stand out as advanced pavilions, with No. 4 further highlighted by a pedimented cross-gable. The buildings have cill bands and plinths, with an end pilaster strip on No. 7. The roofs are slate, with boarded eaves and a combination of three cement render and two brick chimney stacks.

Recessed 12-pane sash windows are present throughout, except for the ground floor left window of No. 2. No. 49 features lugged architraves on its south front, while No. 1 has a one-window front. The entrance to No. 3 has been altered, with a sash window now in the former arched doorway recess. The other fronts have arched entrances of two orders, complete with keystones on Nos 4 to 7. The doors for Nos 1 to 3 and 7 are four-panel, and No. 4 includes a five-pane fanlight. No. 7 has a one-window front that wraps around a chamfered corner, leading to the similar but three-window dry dash front of No. 8. The ground floor of No. 49 features deep pilasters and a large shop window.
