Description
Garrod's Newsagents is a group of simple classical buildings dating from the 19th century. They are two stories high with two-window fronts, featuring a combination of stucco and roughcast finishes, along with plinths and a cill band. The roofs are covered with slate, and there are projecting eaves and cement render chimney stacks.
The first-floor windows are small-pane and offset to Nos 50 and 51. The shop front of No 49 has multiple panes and is flanked by deep pilasters. No 50 has two sash windows on the ground floor, which include glazing bars on the upper sash, while No 51 features a later shop front with semicircular headed lights.
Each entrance is arched and consists of two orders; No 49 has a modern door, while Nos 50 and 51 have panelled doors with traceried fanlights above. Additionally, there is a half-glazed shop door located on the splayed corner.
